Private Mountain Guiding and Instruction

Hire your private mountain guide.
Our high levels of qualifications and experience, coupled with excellent local knowledge and friendly approach will ensure safe and rewarding adventures.

Engaging the services of your private mountain guide, at anytime of the year, is available as a popular alternative to attending a set mountaineering course with other people. Together we will design a bespoke itinerary that will meet your requirements and help you to achieve your ambitions, whether you are an individual or part of a group.  The duration and location can be tailored to your requirements.

One of the main advantages of private mountain guiding is that is is delivered entirely around your aspirations. A flexible approach enables the pace of the course and level of challenge to be easily adjusted to match your ability and experience. This ensures that skills are developed progressively and at a suitable pace.

All of the mountain guides, instructors and leaders that we employ for all of our courses are all very active mountaineers and climbers. All have climbed and walked extensively throughout the UK and many have been on adventurous expeditions around the world. With such a wealth of experience, we will make sure that we find the right professional for you.

West Coast Mountain Guides enjoy the challenge of accommodating even the wildest requests; allow us to help provide you a safe and enjoyable time in the mountains.

Private mountain guiding and instruction ratios will depend on the type of activity requested. Prices will reflect the location, duration and number of people who want to participate. Please see below for our pricing structure. If you would like some help with your request or wish to discuss ideas and options with an experienced instructor, please get in touch.

  • 5 star rating Skye High Big thanks to West Coast Mountain Guides for getting my Canadian visitors and myself up the Cuillins and up, over and back down the inaccessible pinnacle. Our guide Josh inspired confidence every step of the way. Getting us out of our comfort zones whilst taking in some of the most jaw dropping scenery made for a fantastic adventure!

5 star rating Aonach Eagach Adventure West Coast mountain guides were really communicative and gave clear instructions. Our guide Gill Parker was a great mountain guide and provided free jelly babies. We all felt safe, well directed and had a great time. To be recommended, great conversation too.

  • 5 star rating Tower Ridge 25th June 2019 Ken immediately made us feel welcomed and we had a good chat on the walk in before gearing up for the ridge ascent. Both my son and I had a fantastic experience thanks to Ken's calm, expertise in leading us over the ridge and the descending via Ledge Ridge to round off a great day. Highly recommended!

5 star rating Aognach eagnach ridge What an awesome day I had on Saturday tackling the ridge.
Josh was great- made it all seem really manageable (and safe). We were all pleased with our choices to go with a company/guide like yours especially when we met a couple who turned back when they saw what was ahead and later a chap who said he was stuck because his shoes had no grip.
    Josh was great with...

5 star rating Aonach Eagach Ridge Just completed the Aonach Eagach Ridge with Gillian, our West Coast Guide for the day. We had a great day and despite 4 seasons in one day weather we still had some fantastic views over the Aonach Eagach Ridge.
Thanks to Gillian for all her knowledge, technical skills and great chat.
Will definitely recommend West Coast Mountain Guides and would definitely use them again.

  • 5 star rating Very reassuring guide We spent two days with Ken on Skye including Sgurr nan Gillian and Am Basteir together. It was challenging at times not helped by very wet weather at the start of both days but Ken made sure the group were kept confident and safe. Highly recommended.

5 star rating Reaching the top for charity Our West Coast Mountain Guides were fantastic; everyone in our group was full of praise for them. They were professional, knowledgeable and managed the group well. An absolute pleasure to be with while achieving our goal of climbing Ben Nevis raising money for Alzheimer Scotland. Above all, they ensured our group reach the peak together despite the considerable range of fitness. Thank you to Ken and his team.

  • 5 star rating Superb Days on mountains with excellent guide I booked through West Coast Mountain Guides for two different trips, and ended up using the same guide on both occasions. I was exceptionally pleased with the experience. I am a reasonably experienced hill walker, and was looking to step up with a guide to do some challenging scrambles in the Scottish highlands.
On both occasions I felt I was dealing with a guide who managed to balance the difficult combination...

5 star rating So much more than simply showing us the way. Twice I've now been on the Cuillin ridge & used Ken & the guys from West Coast. Their knowledge of the ridge is excellent & they make sure routes chosen are suitable for the group. Their attention to everyone's safety is a priority & although on some pretty exposed areas, I never felt unsafe. They also considered each days weather & chose our days route accordingly.
    I would have no hesitation...
