These
courses provide the adventurous hillwalker with a chance to
go a step further onto steeper ground. No previous roped experience
is required, however a head for heights would be a distinct
advantage and a wish to try simple scrambles and rock climbs.
Also good experience for people considering visiting the Alps
and needing to learn roped 'moving together' techniques.
The areas visited provide the very best ridge
scrambling anywhere in the British Isles. The courses meet
on Saturday (pm) and finish on Thursday (pm), five days of
exciting adventure.
During
this week attempts will be made on Curved Ridge and the Aonach
Eagach in Glen Coe, as well as Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis. Time
will be spent on lower lying crags in Glen Nevis (Poll Dubh)
and Glen Coe (Aonach Dubh) learning the basics of rope-work,
belaying, abseiling and simple climbing. As with all the courses,
equipment is provided (ropes, helmet, climbing belt/harness).
Course members should provide their own clothing, boots and
rucksack. No special footwear is required other than a good
robust hillwalking boot with high ankle support and well maintained
'Vibram' type sole.
