Mountain Flowers and Berries - Identification

Tuesday, 9 September 2008

Alan,

Hi. I think that I may have identified the flower which I found on the Buachaille; it seems that it might be Veronica Alpina (Alpine Speedwell); 'scarce' in the wild, so not surprising that I hadn't seen it before. However, if any of your viewers know better?!

Veronica Alpina (Alpine Speedwell)
Anyway, I now have an even more confusing one; please find attached a photo of a berry which I took on the Buachaille in August, at around 400m on an eastwards facing slope. Grateful if you could put on the web and see if anyone knows what it is....unless you do?

Cheers,

Duncan

The plant with red berries is Dwarf Cornel (Cornus suecica). Quite common on Scottish mountains but I've never seen the fruits before.
