Latest winter climbing conditions

These are posted as and when I have the time or information. Climbers are welcome to let me know what they find anywhere in Scotland, and I will try and post this information also. Links to other relevant sites are at the top and foot of this page. Important links as follows:

Very Wet

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Today it is sluicing down and the forecast suggests more of the same. There are still significant amounts of snow left lying in all of the major gully lines. Also a big patch on the summit plateau at around 1250 metres. Just goes to show how much snow we had last winter. I doubt if the snow will completely disappear from Ben Nevis this year.
Looking into Observatory Gully and Gardyloo from Tower Ridge yesterday.

Plenty snow remaining in Coire na Ciste.

More snow below the Minus Face.

Stephen and James approaching the Douglas Gap at the start of Tower Ridge. An easy enough little gully, but beware of some small loose stones.

The 'Fallen Block' pitch on the Eastern Traverse of Tower Ridge. This is usually full of snow in the winter and entails a pitch over the top.

Plenty of Red Deer with young calfs below the North Face. In recent years these have been on the increase, along with the climbers.

Work on the refurbishmnent and extension of the CIC Hut is well under way and looking good. My CIC Hut courses next winter are now taking bookings for March. Check my website for details.
