Great effort Bruce.
Can I ask, did your route take you from the Aonach Beag/Mor col on to CMD? I was thinking about a trip this Sunday from Aonach Mor to the Ben via this route.
Also, how far did you manage to get down the Ben? I'm assuming there are some dripping monsters above all the main gully lines.
Any info, greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Pablo, yes the skiing from the Aonach Beag col onto CMD was steep, but skiable, with a bit of traversing, straight into the col, obvious route when you get there, as long as you can see where you are going. Most of the climb to Carn Mor Dearg was walking though, as bit of an arete of snow most of the way, and walk along CMD arete, skiable to half way down Ben, stay in Red Burn. Have agood trip, Bruce
Thanks Bruce.
We had a grand day out on Sunday. The ski down the west face of Aonach Mor was a bit sketchy as the slope was still mostly in shade when we hit it.
We floundered our way up to the CMD arete slip sliding on skins where possible but mostly booting up. The bootpack straight up the east ridge was probably the best option.
The arete was in fantastic condition and it was great to reach the summit on skis.
We followed the Red Burn on the descent but it looks as though the optimum line was the burn further north off the summit of Carn Dearg. That would have taken us all the way to the halfway lochan.
Credit for the 8 hour traverse - very impressive.
P
