For the first half of April, I was out in Nepal, leading a trip for Adventure Peaks. The plan was to climb Island Peak, which lies in the heart of the Everest Region. Unfortunately, due to both Bob and Matt suffering from a combination of acute mountain sickness and gastroenteritis, we had to abandon our summit attempt at base camp, but it was still a great trip and reinforced the notion that it’s not reaching the summit that counts, it’s about making the most of the journey. Oh, and getting home safely! Bob and I reached the summit of Chukung Ri, which at 5560m was still a fine achievement.
